The House, under Nancy Pelosi, past a budget measure that will result in a $400 Billion dollar tax increase, the lergest in American history – that’s the subject of today’s Talking Point’s memo.
A lot of this is because they are repealing Bush’s tax cuts, and on top of loads of new spending for government programs across the board.
No action was taken to address growing entitlements or illegal immigration. But Democrats in the House and Senate did agree on surrender.
And they agreed on pork.
The bill to fund our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan contain defeat clauses including an arbitary date: May 31, 2008 by which we would deploy the white flag, lay down for the terrorists and retreat.
To top it off, Democrats loaded the bill, which is supposed to fund our soldiers for serving in harms way, with more prok barrel spending than I can list.
There is sugar beats.
Roads in Alaska that should be part of the transportation bill.
Welfare subsidies for counties that can’t cut timber thanks to environmentalist wackos – yes all that is in the bill.
Along with scores of a lot of pet projects, such as funding guided tours for the Capital. Oh, and least us not forget the transfer of funds from holiday ornament sales in the Senate Gift Shop.
So for passing legislation that calls for America to give up, run home; tail between legs from Iraq even as Iran holds western hostages again, Democrats called it a day and went on vacation.
Unfortunately for the country they will be back.
And that’s the memo.
